Facebook & Twitter purge hits Anti-Media, Free Thought Project, others

October 11, 2018

In a brazen, coordinated assault on independent media today, Facebook took down several hundred pages.

Some such pages had literally millions of Facebook followers, including The Anti-Media, Free Thought Project, Reverb Press, and Police the Police.

Despite the clear political motivations a sweeping purge against independent media outlets only weeks before the mid-term election, Facebook claimed that all of these pages had violated their policies on spam.

Within hours of the Facebook purge, The Anti-Media and Reverb Press's Twitter accounts had also been suspended.

Another account, PM Beers, had been suspended from Twitter as well (@pmbeers), but had not been suspended from Facebook.

As of 8:12pm Eastern, Free Thought Project's Twitter account (@TFTPROJECT) had not been suspended and was allowed to notify followers of what had happened to the Free Thought Project Facebook page:

Today's censorship follows a similar trend over recent months that has seen voices from across the political spectrum being either temporarily or permanently silenced on social media -- including "RussiaGate" skeptic Caitlin Johnstone, Hollywood actor James Woods, and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Clearly there has been a coordinated -- perhaps unspoken -- move in Silicon Valley to use any excuse imaginable to silence the speech of any and all critics of the false neoliberal / neoconservative consensus.

Whether or not this trend will continue after the election remains to be seen.
